I must say how happy I am to take the CRP exam in May 2015. It wasn’t an easy decision. I’ve had lots of CRP’s tell me the material is comprehensive, the study time is enormous, and the test is grueling. It has been likened to the ACT or SAT for college-entrance.
Coming from a Household Goods Transportation background, I’m fairly comfortable with that aspect of relocation. But I realize that the Mobility industry is so much more expansive than household goods transportation. Was I ready to tackle the broad knowledge base that covers elements such as tax liability, loss-on-sale, amended value options and more?
I’ve been an ERC member for years but never seriously contemplated the certification until this year. I thought and I thought about it. I would talk myself into it and then just as easily, talk myself out of it. I’m a full-time working wife, mom and community volunteer. My weekdays are full and my weekends are even fuller. Who has time for “going back to school”?
Yet I couldn’t get it out of my mind. I knew it would benefit me professionally and in addition, it will be extremely rewarding from a personal standpoint. At almost 50 years old, I consider myself a “life-long learner”, so I decided to put my money where my mouth is. I registered for the exam on January 7.
I received my study materials 2 weeks ago, and so far, so good. I find myself opening a workbook or an online tutorial site whenever I get the opportunity – sitting at my desk while eating lunch, on the couch at night watching ESPN with my husband, or spending a dedicated hour of study time right before bedtime.
I can tell you, I am excited and I’m certain it will be worth it. Can’t wait for May to get here.
