Companies Can Address Talent Shortages by Partnering with Educators – HBR Article by Timm Runnion & Ivana Gibson
Synopsis: Although unemployment is now lower than it’s been in over a decade, millions Americans remain unemployed in jobs paying minimum wage. Meanwhile, according to the U.S. Department of Labor statistics, there are millions of job openings, which companies are struggling to fill.
And many of these are considered good jobs, which begs the question: What can be done to better align the unemployed or underemployed with the employers who offer these?
One approach that seems to be working is business education partnerships, in which companies collaborate with schools to produce employees with the needed skills.
By proactively training tomorrow’s workforce today, companies increase their chances of future success.
